……..The word that is on the streets of which have become the subject of discussions which is making viral rounds has it that…….it is apparent that our honourable Members of Parliament received a bribe to reject a report that was prepared by a joint parliamentary committee on the subject of contaminated and unsafe sugars which were in the markets.

And, the writings are on the wall …….that money exchanged hands by the use of blue envelope to conceal it which was meant to induce the Members of Parliament to reject the joint committees’ report.

The setting up of the joint committee was occasioned by a Member of Parliament who petitioned the Speaker for the House to probe and get deeper into detail to the already simmering saga which had unfolded of contaminated sugars which were already in the markets which were brought by unscrupulous sugar barons.

And, the joint committees’ initial preparation of the report was dogged by controversies from the word go. Cases of Members of the Parliamentary committee being compromised were live which forced the House Speaker to streamline the terms of engagement when the committee is probing an issue.

Finally, when they managed to table the report in the floor of the House they were forced to withdrew it because it was said to be incomplete. In the second instance when it was tabled, the Members of Parliament watered it down and rejected it as allegations of bribery to the Members of Parliament came to live.

But, that unfolding saga of bribery showcased that our Members of Parliament are corrupt and greedy…..for they only serve their own interests. Despite them being the most highly paid Members of Parliament in the world they stooped too low and they lowered their dignity and integrity when they engaged in corrupt errands.

That our Members of Parliament can be compromised with blue envelopes containing cash amounting to Kshs.10,000-30,000 is quite telling…..of which portrays them as corrupt, greedy, incompetent, inefficient, and who lacks merit to be leaders representing their electorates. Also, they proved that they can’t be trusted to probe any hot issue that affects the Kenyan citizenry.

And, that bribery allegation rubberstamps earlier assertions that our Members of Parliament have been soliciting bribes during committee sessions when they do invite Cabinet Secretaries, parastatal heads, or, state officers. It is being said that this committee acts as conduits of soliciting bribes for favourable reports.

They failed their electorates when they ganged up to reject the joint committees’ report on contaminated sugars. And, this hot issue of contaminated sugars is a serious issue because it touches the livelihood of the Kenyan people and the Members of Parliament didn’t feel challenged to raise up to the occasion to champion the Kenyan citizenry cause, instead they sided with their greed and ineptitude.

That bribery allegation facing Members of Parliament is just only a tip of an iceberg and haven’t come as a surprise to many Kenyans. What surprised them is just how cheap our Members of Parliament are and how low they are willing to go. Even in midst of a graft purge, they remain unshaken and unwavering in their pursuit of selfish gains.
