……The war on narcotic drugs……a right step in the right direction…….. But,why are we always losing the war on drugs despite there being a spirited attempt to eradicate them? And,why is it proving to be a hard nut to crack when it comes to fighting the narcotic drugs? And,why is drugs trade so much entrenched in the society ,despite spirited efforts to contain it ,and, putting into consideration the government’s security apparatus?

……..The war on narcotic drugs menace…..a right step in the right direction which should be applauded and supported by all citizenry in the society. The effects of narcotic drugs menace has ravaged and affected our society in a big way with negative tribulations and it is the high time that we do nip the drug’s bud before it blows out with devastation.

It is the right time that we took decisive measures to contain drug trafficking in the country. We must take bold steps to confront and face the reality of narcotic drugs menace in the society. These drugs are ravaging the innocent and young souls and turning them into zombies .They are the easiest and vulnerable targets of these drugs .

And,that’s why in the last few weeks we have seen a heightened crackdown on drugs targeting mainly the Coastal region. The renewed fight began when the two sons of the late drug baron Lord ,Ibrahim Akasha, and, two foreigners believed to be their accomplices were taken to the U.S.A.

Since then, there has been public proclamations and warnings by top government officials ,including President Uhuru Kenyatta ,and ,his deputy,William Ruto,to suspected drug barons that their days are numbered .

They want to nip the drug’s bud of which is a momentaeous task that awaits them…..but,with the state machinery ,i think they can’t fail to contain it.It remains to be seen whether this time round ,the state agencies will act.

And,over time this war on narcotic drugs have been vicious, which at the end of it all fails to gain momentum and at the end ,ends up in limbo as we are taken round the circles with no conclusive conclusion being realized. The war always hits a dead end even before we do find head ways.

Even President Uhuru was once involved in this war on narcotic drugs when we witnessed the destruction of a vessel ship which was laden with narcotic drugs.

Methinks that ,as much as i support the war against drugs ,i’m still skeptical as to whether the government is really serious about fighting this ill vice.I think we lost the war on narcotic drugs along time ago .The trade of narcotic drugs involves an intricate network which is controlled by powerful and influential drug barons who are in government ,or,have networks with government officials.

Also, the government officials who are mandated to deal and fight these narcotic drugs are being compromised by these powerful and wealthy drug barons.

So,this intricate cobweb of narcotic drugs which is controlled by these powerful drug barons in conjuction with government officials makes the whole intention of fighting narcotic drugs to come to a cropper due to their powerful influence in the government.

However, going by history ,the group that gets the short end of the stick whenever such campaigns are launched are the lowly thousands ,who are hopelessly hooked to hard drugs.

And,the effects of these narcotic drugs have being heavily felt across the country with the coastal region bearing the blunt of the side effects of these narcotic drugs.According to statistics on drugs menace ,the coastal region leads with high number of drug addicts in the country due to the high prevalence of these narcotic drugs.

So the deportation of the Akasha sons ,and, their compatriots to U.S.A to face justice due to their involvement with narcotic drugs is a step in the right direction which should be applauded by all. And,since they had compromised the systems of governance in the country there was need for another option.

The war on drugs must be won at all costs .And,if we are not careful ,Mombasa will gradually turn into another Columbia and Mexico with militia gangs ,armed youths and criminals moving around the city and narcotics is driving virtually every sector in Mombasa .And, these drug barons are evolving to be Paul Escobar of sorts.

“Paul Escobar was a popular person in Columbia at first .He built schools, hospitals and seemed to be the defender of people’s welfare and their champion. But,what became of him later? He became one of the biggest drug barons “.

Paul Escobar was the head of the notorious medellin cartel and one of the world’s most wanted fugitive who was killed by Columbian security forces during a shoot out in 1993.
