…….Talk about the allure of “tainted and dirty monies”,being brought to the Churches in form of donations in fund raisers…..This is one topic that has being lingering in our society for quite along time until it was brought to the fore the whole concept of donations by the political class was questioned.

And ,putting into consideration the simmering runaway corruption scandals which has escalated with accusing fingers pointing to the political class and establishments……who are then invited as guests of honor in these Church fund raisers where they do donate million of monies they have obtained fraudulently …..Kenyans can join the dotted lines ….Where at the end of the day ,hard questions has to asked.

Then, the big and hard question arises…..Is it right for the Church to accept these “tainted and dirty monies”that’s been donated by the political class?….And,what is the Church doing to stem the runaway corruption,or,is the Church propagating it by accepting these “tainted and dirty monies”?

Methinks that the Church has the moral obligation to do more to contain this vice, for,it is unwittingly, perhaps ,facilitating many criminals to launder money.

According to Gabriel Dolan, while writing in the Saturday Nation ,wrote that ,the lure of “that tainted thing”has compromised many clerics and left others ambiguous in their dealings with known criminals and the political class.

He further wrote that politicians are allowed to preach politics in Houses of worship because they pay the bills and furnish the buildings. As a result ,the Church is no longer prophetic but subservient to and dependent on the political class who controls the nation’s purse strings. And,the eyes in the Churches confronts the politicians.

And,i think ,this is what prompted Embu Catholic Bishop ,Rev.Paul Kariuki,in a letter addressed to his priests and faithfuls recommended that no Church compound should be used for political gatherings and no politicians would be allowed to campaign in Churches and at funerals. No announcements on political events would be allowed in Churches and christians were advised to not attend any night gatherings organised by politicians.

The Bishop’s warning to his priests not to entertain politicians in their churches during Holy masses where they are invited to greet the congregation is a right step in the right direction because when they are invited they propagate politicking and their obnoxious political activities.

Overall he banned the political class from any Church activities that may compromise the Church’s service in the name of greeting the congregation.

It was on the same breadth that the Catholic Bishops also banned politicking in Churches. The conference of Bishops reached that critical conclusion after a careful consideration of the fact that politicians are taking advantage of the Church activities and fund raisers to advance their political mileages ,in the name of greeting the congregation.

In total disguise of donations in fund raisers where they do bring these “tainted and dirty money”these activities have being reduced and mis-used by politicians to such an extent that most Churches are being turned into political arenas.

Gabriel Dolan,in his opinion piece in the Saturday Nation, wrote that the Bishops spoke very strongly on the cancer of corruption and other social evils. On the matter of politics and elections, the Bishops said,”politicians should not be allowed to address the congregation in our houses of worship”.

He further wrote that in the coming weeks ,many will watch keenly the implementation of the Bishops’ demand. It was interesting that the Bishops plenary did not say that politicians should not be invited to fund raisers
