…….President Uhuru Kenyatta’ desperate attempt to woo and appease for the support of the Building Bridges Initiative document in the Mount Kenya region……..Illustrates a President and a political leader who is desperate to win back his dwindling political fortunes in his political backyard.

The President has lost the political touch in his political bastion base, where he once enjoyed, and, commanded a near-fanatical political following. Now he is trying to regain and stamp his authority in the ground.

He has awakened a little bit late after he was rattled by Senate Majority Chief Whip, Irungu Kang’ata, open treatise addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta, which was widely published and circulated. Senator Kang’ata received thumbs up from Mount Kenya residents for stating the truth.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, realized that his political footsoldiers and followers abandoned him along time ago, and, now the hour of reckoning and need has dawned …..he needs them …..but, already they have charted another political discourse at the consternation of the President.

And, it seemed like Senate Majority Chief whip, Irungu Kang’ata open letter to the President aroused him from his political slumber. Kang’ata’s bare-knuckle open letter to the President where he opined that Building Bridges Initiative document risks flop in Mount Kenya region where it’s receiving lukewarm reception nailed the last nail to the coffin.

That’s why recently President Kenyatta came out of the closet gun-blazing where he gave an interview to Kikuyu vernacular FM Radion stations in a desperate attempt to woo, appease and calm the political tidal wave and whirlwind that’s sweeping across the Mount Kenya region. He urged the residents to support him in his political endeavours and especially the Building Bridges Initiative document.

While addressing Mount Kenya residents in an interview with vernacular Kikuyu FM Radio stations, the President warned Mount Kenya residents against rejecting Building Bridges Initiative document, saying that they stand to lose should they be misled into rejecting the document.

He told the regions’ residents to tread carefully on leaders who have promised them development, which they could get if they adopt the Building Bridges Initiative. He also asked the region to allow him to focus on development promising round country tours at the tail-end of his term.

But, will the Presidents’ desperate attempt to woo and appease for the support of the Building Bridges Initiative in Mount Kenya region …..his political base materialize? Methinks that the President faces a daunting task of changing and undoing the political narrative that’s on the ground which was confirmed by Senator Kang’ata’s open treatise that Building Bridges Initiative [BBI] is unpopular in Mount Kenya region.

President Kenyatta can be likened to a ship captain who finds himself entangled in a strong tidal wave in the high seas after losing focus of his ship due to some irrelevant and disruptive sideshows…..only to realize later that he has lost the plot and focus of his ship.

According to the political realities on the ground tells of a different story contrary to what the President thinks of Building Bridges Initiative {BBI}. People don’t want to hear anything concerning [BBI]. To them [BBI] will only overburden the already overburdened citizenry. Nothing is new except some superficial and sweetened clauses in the document.

Methinks that Kenya isn’t in the constitutional moment. The country is in a desperate need of economic recovery moment. The country is in debt prison. Today the country is having a budget deficit, yet we are giving top priority to non-issues.

And, a time has come to let the President know that the biggest challenge in Kenya is graft, poverty levels and unemployment.
