……….Facing Mt. Kenya with an unpopular Building Bridges Initiative {B.B.I}……This is the reality that struck Senate Majority Chief Whip, Irungu Kang’ata, when he opined an open treatise[letter] to President Uhuru Kenyatta, expressing his reservations over the document. He laid bare the real situation on the ground concerning Building Bridges Initiative {BBI} report in the Mount Kenya region.

Senator Kang’ata realized what has been written on the wall……that Building Bridges Initiative [BBI] isn’t popular in Mount Kenya region… it’s on the deathbed. And, trying to convince the people from mount Kenya region will backfire spectacularly.

It was a bare-knuckle letter of the real truth concerning the Building Bridges Initiative [BBI] which President Uhuru Kenyatta is using to amend the constitution to necessitate some changes in the systems of governance.

Senator Kang’ata highlighted key issues he thinks needs to be addressed that’s making Building Bridges Initiative [BBI] to be unpopular in Mount Kenya region. And, it came to his realization that the document is unpopular after doing his background research and survey. He did unscientific research where he found out that in 10 people, only 2 people are supporting the Building Bridges Initiative [BBI].

Methinks that people from mount Kenya region have in unison rejected the Building Bridges Initiative [BBI] in its entirety and no amount of conviction, or, intimidation will convince them to think otherwise and support it.

And, it is worth noting that the government is trying to force the Building Bridges Initiative down our throats, but, their hard tactics won’t succeed.

So Kang’ata’s open treatise to the President should be a wake-up call to the President to come to his political senses and realize that Building Bridges Initiative [BBI] will become a cropper in his political backyard. People aren’t embracing it.

Although Kang’ata faced a backlash from the President’s loyalists and footsoldiers………he had already let the cat out of the bag……it is the elephant in the room……which is boiling in Mount Kenya region.

That open treatise by Senator Kang’ata opened a pandora’s box and created a hullabaloo necessitating a clash of opinions in the political circles over mount Kenya’s alleged rejection of Building Bridges Initiative {BBI}.

According to the people of the Mount Kenya region, arguments has it that ….there are more pressing issues that needs to be given top priority and addressed in this hard economic times which have pushed people to the economic periphery.

Most people are on the economic fix, a situation which was worsened by the global Covid 19 pandemic purge. They are in dire situations where they are facing a myriad of problems coupled with the skyrocketing cost of living. Their meagre earnings keep on dwindling with every passing day. It’s a sorry situation on the ground.

And, in matters of introspective, here lies the irony…..amidst these myriads of problems and clouds of uncertainty which sound mind will want to hear the Building Bridges Initiative [BBI] drums beats. Telling people to first support the document irrespective of their problems at these times is ridiculous.

Instead of addressing the real issues that are affecting people the government has pumped millions of money into the Building Bridges Initiative [BBI] while sidestepping the primary priorities that need to be addressed at this hard economic times of Covid 19.

When people are struggling to make ends meet …..a referendum is the last thing they want to hear
